I decided to interpret ”pick up” as to buy a book. The only thing that makes me pick up a book to read is my mood. And that is a very short list. So here’s my top ten reasons for picking up a book and carry it home with me.
Auto buying my favourite authors books is a given for me. Be it a novella, new series, continuation of aseries or a collaboration with another author, I shall have it!
I’m so easy to tempt that it’s ridiculous. Name either a kingdom in peril, magic, scary forests, emotionally scared characters or drop a hint of dragons and the book moves in with me. In all honesty I sometimes get confused about which is which with the books I’ve not yet read. They can sound disturbingly similar..
Am I in the mood for new books? Actually, not all the time. I do a lot of window shopping, but goes home empty handed. It’s not really normal for me to buy 30 books a month (as has been the case for the last 3..), but there was an abundance of new releases and sales. But now they are over and I can go back to normal.
If a person who’s taste I can trust vows that the book is great, I myself own that book in a matter of days.
I’m sooo guilty of judging books by the cover! But just look at them! I have often defended myself to my fiancé with the words; ”I’m buying useful art! Who does not want a painting that tells a story!”
Sometimes I find a book that’s sound so wonderfully weird and unique that I have to have it. That’s how I found my beloved Hello Kitty Must Die. I’m always looking for something different to bring colours into my reading. The weirder the story, the more likely I’m carrying that book home.
Who can resist a bargain? You can always find something fun in the used bookstore that costs less than a latte and lasts way longer! And I’m saying that as a barista who gets 50% discount on my coffee.
If there’s a mega hype going on in the right circles you can see me jumping aboard. But not always, sometimes a really hyped book honestly just sounds stupid. I do not believe I will ever read Twilight, vampires does not sparkle!
”I don’t care if I already have the book, this edition is so much prettier and has a special stamp!”
”But the story is the same right?”
”… But it’s pretty!! And look at the map!””…”Jup, that’s me arguing with my hubby in the bookstore. He likes beautiful books too, but really can’t understand why I ever need 2 editions for..
I always finishes series, and I hate to see a lone book in the shelves. So I buy any new books in a series that I’ve begun collecting. (I’m a collector, not a hoarder!)
