2019 was the year of ”unfinished business”, meaning I wanted to finish as many started but not finished books and series as possible. And I’m happy with my results with only one book left to read since 2018. I’m also happy with my other goals that I reached;
- Read 90 books: I managed 112
- Reread Song of Ice and Fire: Done!
- Finish Realm of the Elderlings: Done!
- Read more Classics: I certainly did.
Top 5 2019⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was so lucky with my reading this year! The only drawback was that this top 5 list was very hard to write. But after sorting trough them all and choosing with not just the score in mind, but also my heart, here they are!
Nr 5: The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton
-Everything I like about stories with heavily flawed characters wrapped up in one fantastic book. And Tessa Gratton is now a auto-buy author for me.
Nr 4: Winterhued by E.H. Alger
-This is definitely a fantastic book that have a very special place in my heart. It got me out of a huge reading slump after a very hard time in my life and made me smile. To say that I have an emotional attachment to it is an understatement.
Nr 3: Caraval by Stephanie Garber
-It blew my mind! I had so much fun getting my theories debunked, and I keep dreaming about going to Caraval myself.
Nr 2: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
-I had no ide what I was in for when I started reading this book, and I do not regret a single second of it.
Nr 1!! Furyborn by Claire Legrand
-This book is everything!! Do yourself the favour of the year and read it. If you have read it, I doubt you can argue with my choice.
Time Wasted 2019🥀
And now for the bad and the ugly. This was actually not a hard choice to make.
5: The Lantern’s Ember
-Everything about this book was a big disappointment. Instead of a cool horror adventure for halloween, I got a really dumb reverse harem book. I’m not happy.
4: Eden Conquered
-The first booked me intrigued. But this follow was beyond disappointing! It was like cooking the perfect pancakes, and have someone dump ketchup all over them.. I’m still upset.
-The whole series was just a giant snooze fest. There will not be a review of it, because I would just keep on filing asleep writing it.
2: The Forest Queen
-It could have been cool, but was just a big pile of ”Bleh”.
1: Artemis Fowl
-Nope, nothing about this was for me or even a young version of me. There was a certain fart-related ”humanistic” moment that almost had me throwing the book out of the window. Nuf said.
Reading goals for 2020
This is the year of shrinking my never ending TBR. I’ll have a pre-set number of re-reads of 10 books, and after that I can reread 10 more during the year if I feel like it. I’ll also limit the number of books I’m allowed to buy. Here’s my goals and systems for the year;
- Read 120 books (minimum 100 new reads)
- Reread Harry Potter
- Read the Odyssey and Iliad
- Don’t buy more books than I read (if I read 3, I can buy one new book)
- Fairyloot year long reading challenge
